Who hasn't said themselves they would like to lose 20 or 30 pounds? On the flip side, who hasn't said they don't have the time to invest in losing weight and eating properly? The reality is, most of us don't know where to start or what to do. Habits are hard to break, it takes 2-3 weeks to develop new habits, and quite frankly changing one’s lifestyle is extremely hard. Fad diets are doomed to fail for the majority of us. Those fad diets we read about online or hear about on the news don't give us the whole story. I hear so many people tell me that they have cut carbs from their diets. What most of us don't know, carbs aren't just bread, rice, pasta and beer, but are also in fruit and vegetables. Our brains run on carbohydrates and our muscles are
fueled by carbs, in short, our bodies need carbs.
To stay on the carbohydrate bandwagon, I'm all for cutting out or cutting down the
consumption of bread, pasta rice and yes, beer to lose weight. You will lose a few pounds. But
what happens when your diet stalls and you are no longer noticing any weight loss? We feel
like failures and go back to old habits and usually put back on all the weight we just loss plus
I lost 20+ pounds over the past 6 months by counting calories. Yup, good old fashioned
counting calories. It's simple, eat less calories than what you burn. You will be hungry but you
will adapt in a few weeks and not think about it. I used an app on my phone to track my
calories diligently. I also worked with a sports nutritionist who explained to me that if I laid on a
couch all day (at that time weighing 145lbs) and not move all day, I would burn about 1200
calories without trying. Add in a 1-hour HIIT workout, which can burn up to 500 calories and I
need 1700 calories to maintain that 145 pounds. To burn 1 pound of fat, a person needs a
calorie deficit of 3400-3600 calories. With the help of my nutritionist, 7 workouts a week and
will power, I was able to lose 2 pounds a week. It wasn't easy but I was determined to lose the
weight and I stuck to it.
The result - I feel great and yes, have more energy, confidence and honestly, I look great. We all look different and our weight loss outcomes will differ, but we can all do this. With a supportive team and family and friends you can do it too. Who doesn't want to be that meat head in the gym checking themselves out in the mirror? I'm happy to call myself a meat head.
